This was the second part of the course. Originally we had met in March, for three days at Crieff Hydro to work on our leadership skills. WE were then to give ourselves a gap task, go away for three months and return with it done. WE then had the opportunity to present it to the other teachers.

My gap task had been to develop a departmental vision – we had succeded and I was pleased with the results.

Other things that we covered over the course of the three days included

  • Giving feedback – This allowed us to develop our understaning of the ways we can give feedback, whether to instruct or coach, or that elusive feedback that involves much support but little direction. I found this idea very powerful, the fact that in most cases just asking people where they think they could improve will show them where to go next.
  • Effective lesson observations -
  • Innovative ways to teach new topics in ACfE.
  • Developing other staff – chosing correct CPD

It was also a great chance to meet with other like minded, enthusiastic and willing teachers who genuinely want to improve schools and teaching.
